The Giving (Part 1)

November 21, 2010
  • No song this week. Just take the time to unplug and listen to the world around you this week.

“Life is a gift , and it offers us the privilege, opportunity and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.”-Anthony Robbins

“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.”-Mother Teresa

Good evening SQers! Hope the past couple weeks have passed smoothly for you. Good news being we’re almost in the homestretch and entering the holiday season with Thanksgiving just around the corner. Between this week’s post and next Sunday’s, I want to do a mini-two part post about Thanksgiving.

Most of the time we live in a selfish bubble. We work for ourselves to make money to feed ourselves, to have a nice place to live and to afford other things we need to live comfortably. Sometimes we get so absorbed in our own things that we forget we’re not the only people in the world. Everyday we are surrounded by people who work just as hard towards their own goals some being more fortunate than others. It it easy to look at our own lives and think if only I had this or if only this went my way…. everything would be so much better. You’re right it probably would be better if that worked in your favor, but think before you complain. Think about how much you have that you do not need to worry about. Think about those who have bigger struggles to deal with on a day-to-day basis.

Take the time this week to get in the spirit of giving. It does not have to be in a huge way in the sense that you start a non-profit or give all of your earnings away. It can be just be doing something nice for one person like the Mother Teresa quote alludes to.  Make a conscious effort this week to give a little something to someone in your life whether it is a friend or a total stranger. You never know how what you may consider to be the smallest effort might significantly brighten someone else’s life. And that brightness is contagious…you might find your life brightened as well.

That’s all for now. Have a great Thanksgiving full of food, family, friends, health and happiness. Look for Part 2 of the Thanksgiving post next week

See you next Sunday,

❤ SQ
